Book review - THE HOST by Stephenie Meyer

THE HOST

BY

Stephenie Meyer

Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The earth has been invaded by a species that takes over the minds of their human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed.
Wanderer, the invading 'soul' who has been given Melanie's body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too-vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.
Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves - Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she's never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love.

MY THOUGHTS…

The Host is a fast paced action book with aliens and danger. My kind of book!

What do you do when you’re an alien with a human inside your head, and you don’t trust your fellow aliens? You change sides of course. Join the humans on the run to survival and help them along the way.

This is what Wanda did and what makes her one of my favourite characters. She, with persuading from Melanie, treks across the desert and puts her life, and Melanie's, in the trust of the humans, a different species. But she wins them over and becomes friends with them, especially Melanie's little brother, Jamie, and Ian, who are my other favourite characters.

I loved reading this book, and I Highly Recommend this book to YA readers and adults because it is suitable for anyone wanting some action and aliens.

Book Review - WINDRUNNERS DAUGHTER by Bryony Pearce

WINDRUNNERS DAUGHTER

BY

Bryony Pearce

A sabotaged colonization attempt leaves the last humans in the universe stranded on Mars. Braving a half-terraformed atmosphere, terrifying indigenous species, and a colony government that is openly hostile, a young girl named Wren must defy tradition to save her mother and perhaps, every human left.
It is forbidden for women to steal the wings that allow a select group of runners to carry messages and goods between colonies. It is forbidden to cross the wastes with a sand storm on the horizon and it is certainly forbidden to share the secrets of the windrunners with those who spend their entire lives in the biospheres.
But what choice does she have?

MY THOUGHTS…

*I received a copy of this book from Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review*

Traveling around Mars would be hard enough challenge on its own.
Traveling around Mars in mid-air, using wings that don’t belong to you, with a man who has never flown before, is near on impossible.

Wren takes on the impossible task of flying across Mars to find her brothers and her father, who haven’t returned from their last flight yet. The only problem – girls aren’t allowed to fly. So, stealing her brothers training wings, she leaps off the platform and into the wind, picking up a follower on the way…

My favourite characters were Raw, Jay and Cole.
Raw seemed nice, and he was concerned for Wrens safety, even when he was in more danger than she was. I felt sorry for him when I read about his past and he became my favourite character.
Jay and Cole, like Raw, were always concerned for Wrens safety and I cried when I read about what happened to Cole and how Jay coped with it.

This is one of my favourite books and I Highly Recommend it to anyone.

Book Review - THE LAST STOP by Michael H. Burnam

THE LAST STOP

BY

Michael H. Burnam

The Last Stop asks the question: What happens when Evolution ends? It’s Ender’s Game meets Close Encounter of the Third Kind - a character-driven action packed drama first set in a high school suffused with emerging sexuality and a strict pecking order, followed by wild flying saucer rides to the dark side of the moon, and then to a city under the ice on Europa where seemingly anything is possible. Mature Sci-Fi devotees will appreciate The Last Stop's hardcore science and philosophy. Young adult readers will enjoy its fast-paced action, stunning visual imagery, three-dimensional characters, teenage protagonists and just the right dash of humor. Who says a feelgood story can’t be classic Sci Fi?

MY THOUGHTS…

*I received a copy of this book from Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review*

A Science Fiction with UFOs, super power suits and flying further than Mars in a few hours.

This book was fast paced with action, adventure and visits to the moon. This book was one that I will definitely be reading again!

My favourite character has to be Pam, who, although can’t walk very well, has spirit, which names her my favourite character.

I didn’t see the need for the military side of this book and the military chapters bored me. The fact that Mickey had found a superpower suit and had travelled space with David would have been a story enough.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed reading this book and Recommend it to UFO lovers!

Book Review - HOW TO BREED SHEEP, GEESE AND ENGLISH ECCENTRICS by Valerie Poore

HOW TO BREED SHEEP, GEESE AND ENGLISH ECCENTRICS

BY

Valerie Poore

When Maisie Peterson leaves university in 1977 without a job to go to, she decides to help her mother save her large and impractical country property in the wilds of rural Dorset by trying her hand at self-sufficiency. Ma is just a tad eccentric, though, and Maisie has no clue about farming. Her efforts are thwarted at quite a few turns by a flock of willful sheep, a dotty aunt, a charming but ineffective boyfriend and a swarthy, but highly desirably agricultural auctioneer. Emily, the ewe, runs rings round her while Ma drifts in and out of the scene in an ancient wedding dress, causing havoc in Maisie's attempts to sort out her personal as well as her agricultural problems.

MY THOUGHTS…

This book is honestly my favourite book ever!

Maisie's dream is also my dream, to have a farm, look after horses, try to stop my mother's dog from eating my eggs...

My favourite character is David, who seems like the most down to earth guy on the planet. He always seems to know what he's doing and also seems to like tea, because he is always drinking it with Maisie and the gang!

My favourite animal... it has to be Wellington and the ongoing joke about his name. My favourite thing that he did? I'm not adding a spoiler, but to those of you that have read this, his incident with the WWOOFer.

I Highly Recommend this book to all eccentrics and anyone else who wants to read it!
